That’s right. I’ve moved on from pizza delivery and closing shift manager at Jet’s Pizza.
I was offered a position at AAA Car Care as a General Auto Tech in their shop and after speaking with the other techs and the manager and seeing what all the company has to offer in the way of pay, benefits, and opportunities, I just couldn’t say no.
So it looks like all those years of panic-inducing shade-tree wrenching has finally made me a legit mechanic, haha.

Awesome congrats! Are you local (Denver) or is Jets a bigger chain than I thought? I'm actually apprenticing now as a tech and delivering pizzas at night so I feel your pain.

Nope, definitely not near Denver. I live in Greenville, SC. Jet’s is a Detroit-based franchise and they’re pretty widespread.

Nice! Good job!
Flat rate or hourly?
Just remember to CYA when recommending a repair. For example, steering is squeaking in parking lots and you find with lower ball joints, but you’re not 100% certain that’s the culprit. So you recommend starting with ball joints and continuing diagnosis if the noise persists. Sometimes you legitimately can’t tell no matter how much work you put into the diagnosis. And also, write the best stories you possibly can and include every little detail from what you did. For example, vehicle is overheating. Pressure tested cooling system and found leaking water pump. Drained coolant. Removed fan and shroud. Replaced water pump and thermostat. Filled and bled cooling system. Reassembled vehicle. Performed pressure test again, passed. Performed road test and verified vehicle no longer leaking or overheating.
Those were just quick examples, it can easily go much more in depth. Your story is a legal document after all and can be used as evidence in court if things go that way. Sometimes stories you wrote months or years ago will be helpful to figure out a current problem. So the better the story is the easier time everyone will have. Don’t use general failure weird like bad or broken. Be specific. It drives me nuts when people stories say “turbo encabulator bad replaced turbo encabulator”. Ok. What was wrong with it? Did it set faults? What testing did you do? What are the specifications for the tests you did? What symptoms did you experience? Were there bulletins associated with the concern?
Sorry for long post. Hope you find it helpful. Lots of places don’t train on things like this, so I’m just looking out!
